Garmin Edge data field coming

One field. Three modes. The whole ride.

Sistema unites the Sapere ride fields into one Edge data field with a tab bar: Strada (adaptive ride), Storia (efficiency & durability) and Scorta (W′-balance). Switch on the bike — no juggling two data fields.

Coming to the Garmin Connect IQ store (Edge 1050).

What you see

One screen at a time, the mode you need — each adapts to the data your bike actually provides.

Strada — the adaptive ride

Live wind, self-computed gradient & VAM, heart rate and turn cues — and it works without a power meter.

How Strada adapts

Strada morphs to what your bike provides: no power meter still gives you speed, self-computed gradient/VAM, live wind and HR. Garmin doesn’t expose true gradient to a data field, so Sapere computes it.

Honest fallback: a missing source drops its cell, the rest reflows.

Storia — efficiency & durability

The story of the ride: efficiency factor, decoupling, power retention and pedal balance.

The honest caveats

Efficiency factor is a personal trend, not a benchmark. Decoupling is only meaningful on steady rides. These need a power meter; without one the section steps aside.

Decoupling/efficiency reading after Friel.

Scorta — your W′ battery

A live W′-balance “battery” for racing and hard efforts — how much is left above your critical power.

A model, not a measurement

W′-balance is a model, deliberately race-conservative. It reads your critical power and W′ from intervals.icu and drains/recharges as you ride above/below CP. Needs a power meter.

Model: Skiba et al. (2012); Clarke & Skiba (2013).

Your Garmin

It fits your Edge.

Sistema reflows to the screen of every recent Edge — tap a model to see it.

Comes first to the newer Edge units (System 7). On an older head unit like the Edge 830? Your rides still sync to intervals.icu and Studio gives you the daily answer — with a live second screen on your phone while you ride. Simulator renders with seeded values.

Two real screens

On an actual Garmin — plus a live second screen on your phone.

Sistema is a real data field on your Edge. And Studio rides along as a live second screen on your phone.

With or without a power meter

Sistema is as dynamic as your bike. A missing source never breaks the screen — it steps aside.

All three modes light up: Strada’s power cell, Storia’s efficiency/retention, and Scorta’s W′-balance.

Strada still gives you speed, gradient/VAM, wind and HR. Storia/Scorta show an honest “no power meter” note instead of guessing watts.

Honest by design

Every estimate is labelled, and the W′-balance and efficiency numbers are presented as models and trends, not lab measurements. Pedal-balance and ANT+ figures can only be verified on the bike — the simulator can’t feed them.

How to get it

Platform coming

Garmin Edge 1050 data field — coming to the Connect IQ store. Free.

What it needs

An Edge 1050. A power meter unlocks Storia/Scorta and Strada’s power cell; wind needs the companion connection. intervals.icu supplies your CP/W′ and zones.

Languages

English, Dutch, German, French, Italian and Spanish — labels switch with your device language; units and metric abbreviations stay neutral.
